As part of our “We are ParkIndy” campaign, we’re excited to introduce Josh. A Supervisor by day, he keeps our enforcement operations coordinated and responsive across Indianapolis. But his life away from the job is just as full: he’s a morning bird, a photographer with a keen eye, and a soon-to-be father. For Josh, photography has become more than a hobby — it’s a way to connect, reflect, and preserve fleeting moments.

We asked Josh five questions. Here’s how he responded:

Q: How did you get into photography?

A: I love exploring outdoors. I started taking photos of whatever I came across — squirrels, raccoons, trails. That curiosity led me to nature photography. Later, a friend loaned me a camera and introduced me to street photography downtown. Capturing the rhythm of city life — architecture, people, even motorcycles — really drew me in. Since then I’ve branched out into portraits and community events, but nature always feels like coming home.

Q: What do you enjoy most about it?

A: Photography forces people — myself included — to slow down. We’re all moving and scrolling so fast. But a powerful photo makes you stop, breathe, and connect. For me, water is the perfect subject. It’s calm but constantly shifting. Trying to capture its motion in a still frame feels both peaceful and challenging. It teaches me patience, which carries over into every part of my life.

Q: Do you have a favorite photo?

A: One stands out: an egret at Eagle Creek. I caught it just as it lifted off, wings spread across the water, sunlight catching the ripples. That moment only existed for a second, but I managed to freeze it in time. It reminds me that some of life’s best experiences are fleeting — you just have to be present enough to catch them.

Q: What equipment do you use?

A: I shoot with a Sony A73. I’m self-taught. I’ve spent thousands of hours in Lightroom, watching tutorials, experimenting with settings. It’s been a long journey of trial, error, and persistence. I love that there’s always more to learn, no matter how much experience you gain.

Q: How has photography shaped your life today?

A: It’s given me opportunities — from shooting with the motorcycle community to taking portraits for families. But more than that, it helps me hold on to moments that matter. With a baby on the way, I’ve realized how fast life moves. Photography has taught me to notice the little things, the in-between moments, and capture them before they’re gone.

Josh’s eye for detail, patience, and timing serve him well on the street and behind the lens. That perspective — knowing when to pause, when to act, and how to frame the moment — is what makes him critical to ParkIndy.
